School Closings

Please note that the Dance Sensation Dance Academy calendar does not follow the regular school calendar. Even when local schools are closed, dance classes may still be held unless otherwise announced.

Studio Closings for the 2026–2027 Season:

  • Labor Day: Monday, September 7, 2026

  • Thanksgiving Break: Wednesday, November 25 – Friday, November 27, 2026

  • Winter Holiday Break: Thursday, December 24, 2026 – Sunday, January 3, 2027

  • Memorial Day: Monday, May 31, 2027

Any additional studio closings due to inclement weather or emergencies will be communicated by email and/or phone and posted on our website and social media pages.

Dance Gala 2027

Our annual Dance Gala is the exciting culmination of a full season of hard work, growth, and dedication from our dancers and faculty.

The 31st Dance Gala Celebration will be held at the Noel S. Ruiz Theatre in Oakdale, NY.

The Gala traditionally takes place in late June or early July, with the final date determined by local school and graduation schedules.

Additional performance details will be announced throughout the dance season.

 

Dress Code

At Dance Sensation, we believe that a dancer is defined by hard work, dedication, and passion — not by a uniform. For that reason, we do not require a specific studio-wide uniform.

However, proper dance attire is essential for students to move safely and freely, allowing instructors to provide appropriate corrections and helping each dancer receive the most from class.

Students should follow the dress code guidelines established for their individual class and dance style. Please pay particular attention to required shoe styles and colors, as these are often used for performances and recital season.

Please refer to the class-specific dress code information below for appropriate attire and footwear.

 Information for All Classes

To help ensure a safe, productive, and professional class environment, please observe the following guidelines:

  • Hair must be secured in a ponytail, bun, or other neat style. Hair may not be worn loose during class.

  • Please avoid loose or dangling jewelry, as it may interfere with movement or create a safety concern.

  • Students should not wear oversized or excessively loose clothing, as instructors must be able to clearly see body alignment and placement in order to provide proper corrections.

  • Children and younger dancers may not wear two-piece dancewear to class.

  • Dance shoes should always be purchased to fit properly, not with extra room to grow. Shoes that are too large or too small can affect technique, comfort, and a dancer’s progress.

Class Dress & Shoe Requirements

Pre-Dance / Tiny Tutu 

Intro to Dance

Attire: Any style or color children’s leotard or appropriate dancewear. Tights are optional.

Shoes: White leather ballet slippers

Combo Class

Attire: Any style or color leotard. Fitted dance shorts may be worn.

Shoes:

  • Tan flat tap shoes — buckle or tie style

  • White leather ballet slippers for the jazz portion of class

Advanced Combo Class

Attire: Any style or color leotard. Fitted dance shorts may be worn. 

Tights are required; no bare legs.
Shoes:

  • Tan flat tap shoes with buckle

  • Tan leather slip-on jazz shoes

Trainee / Apprentice Tap

Attire: Any style or color leotard. Fitted dance shorts may be worn. 

Tights are required; no bare legs.

Shoes: Tan flat tap shoes

Company/Senior Line Tap

Attire: Any style or color leotard. Fitted dance shorts and a fitted T-shirt or tank top may also be worn.

Tights are required; no bare legs.

Shoes:

  • Black high-heeled tap shoes

  • Black flat tap shoes may also be required for certain recital dances, as determined by Miss Susan.

Trainee / Apprentice Jazz

Attire: Any style or color leotard. Fitted dance shorts or jazz pants may be worn. If jazz pants are not worn, tights are required.

Shoes: Tan jazz shoes

Company / Senior Line Jazz & Contemporary

Attire: Any style or color leotard. Fitted dance shorts or jazz pants and a fitted T-shirt or tank top may be worn.

Shoes: Students must own the appropriate footwear required for each class and performance, as directed by Miss Susan.

Acrobatics

Attire: Any style or color leotard. Fitted shorts or fitted dance pants may be worn.
Shoes:

  • Black acrobatic sneakers, reserved exclusively for acrobatics classes

  • White acrobatic sneakers may also be required for performances

Hip Hop

Attire: Any style or color leotard. Fitted shorts or jazz pants and a fitted T-shirt or tank top may be worn.

Shoes: Appropriate jazz shoes or sneakers, subject to instructor approval.
